Word of God
Studying the Word of God is a core responsibility of God’s people It is the primary way you learn God’s truth to grow in wisdom, live His truth in love and obedience, and pass His truth on for the salvation of others. In fact, we are commanded to study Scripture: “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15. The greatest summary of the breadth and depth the Word of God is Psalm 119, with each of its 176 verses reflecting yet another facet of His truth.
God’s Word is necessary to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of God. His instruction reveals His heart toward all mankind and gives us the discernment and strength to live out His teaching. While His Word confronts our sin and convicts our heart, sometimes even to the point of despair, His loving mercy and endless grace comfort us. “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Yet, we are both to live and teach in all humility; “to value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4
We are charged with teaching others. Nothing worldly is more important than the eternal destiny of each person. Christ commanded that each of us should “Go and make disciples of all nations … teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19 Parents are advised “These word that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7
During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus confirmed the enduring nature and reliability of God’s Word. "For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Matthew 5:18 Christ Jesus has come to fulfill the Law and the Prophets.
He is coming again! Do you stand approved?
