“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”                                                                          2 Corinthians 5:20

 What Is Your Witness?

Witness

Witness is the Spirit-driven testimony of Christ’s authority.   Jesus told his disciples “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8    His mandate is clear.  Your personal experience and understanding of Christ’s redemptive work in your life is the foundation of your witness.

Do not be concerned about what you will say.  The Holy Spirit will give you the boldness and the words you need.  The Apostle Paul talked about this: “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” 1 Corinthians 2:4-5

While sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus is commended, witness also is about living a life that reflects the character of Christ.  Matthew 5:14-16 Jesus refers to believers as “the light of the world” urging them to “let you light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Again, in John 15:8 Jesus tells us “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”   This living witness challenges the false narratives of this world, exposing its rebellion and calling for surrender to Christ.  By demonstrating truth, love, justice, mercy, grace, and compassion, your life displays the values of God’s Kingdom.

His Kingdom grows by divine power.  The Holy Spirit emboldens your witness, convicts the hearer and confirms the truth of the Gospel.  You are engaged in spiritual warfare against the kingdom of darkness.  Yet, we are called to witness the truth of God’s rule, both in word and deed, individually and as the Church. “We therefore are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.”  2 Corinthians 5:20
