Scripture declares the power of prayer.

If prayer has ever felt like speaking into silence, you are asking the right question — and Scripture addresses the gap between praying and receiving with remarkable directness.

Seek In Prayer

Pillar 2 - Growing in Faith

Do You Not Know ?

The Lord Is Near To All Who Call On Him,

To All Who Call On Him In Truth.

Have Your Not Heard ?

Whatever You Ask For In Prayer,

Believe That You

Have Received It, And It Will Be Yours.

But For The Disobedient

Then They Will Call To Me But I Will Not Answer;

They Will Look For Me But Will Not Find Me,

Since They Hated Knowledge And

Did Not Choose To Fear The Lord.

The Choice is Yours !!

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil”

1 Peter 3:12

If this is true, which it is, it changes everything about your life.

What Scripture Says About Prayer

Prayer is the way we communicate with God and develop a personal relationship with Him. But it is also how we draw upon God’s power.  We are told “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”  Philippians 4:6.

We are not to give up praying, but to pray continually.  “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” Ephesians 6:18.

Even when we do not know what to pray for, “… the Spirit helps us in our weakness.  The Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”  Romans 8:26.

Jesus reassures us “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree (that is, are of one mind, in harmony) about anything they ask for (within the will of God), it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”  Matthew 18:19

Yet, even more powerfully, we are told “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”   John 15:7

And again, “Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.  Mark 11:24

What Others Ask

Q. How do I pray effectively as a Christian?

A. Jesus modeled effective prayer in Matthew 6:9-13 — addressing God relationally, aligning with His will, bringing honest requests, and acknowledging dependence. Effective prayer is not about technique but about relationship. It is honest, persistent (Luke 18:1), faith-filled (James 5:16), and ultimately submitted to God's will rather than demanding our own.

Q. Why doesn't God seem to answer my prayers?

A. God always responds to prayer — but not always in the way or timing we expect. Scripture identifies several reasons prayers may seem unanswered: asking with wrong motives (James 4:3), unconfessed sin (Psalm 66:18), or prayers not aligned with God's will (1 John 5:14). Sometimes 'no' or 'wait' is the answer. God's silence is not His absence.

Q. What is the purpose of prayer if God already knows everything?

A. Prayer is not about informing God — it is about relationship with Him. He invites us to ask not because He is ignorant of our needs but because the act of asking deepens our trust, aligns our will with His, and keeps us in dependent relationship with our Father. Prayer changes us as much as it moves circumstances.

Q. How do I develop a consistent daily prayer life?"

A. Start small and specific: a set time, a set place, and a simple structure (praise, confession, thanksgiving, request). Jesus rose early to pray (Mark 1:35); Paul prayed without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Consistency matters more than length. Five honest minutes with God every day will transform your faith more than occasional marathon sessions.

Q. What does the Bible teach about different kinds of prayer?

A. Scripture presents prayer in multiple forms: praise and worship (Psalm 150), confession (1 John 1:9), intercession for others (1 Timothy 2:1), supplication for personal needs (Philippians 4:6), lament in suffering (Psalm 22), and contemplative listening. A healthy prayer life includes all of these — not as rigid categories but as the natural range of a relationship with a living God.

Digging Deeper Introduction

Our personal relationship with God grows immensely deeper with prayer.  When you have a heart-to-heart with the Creator of the universe, you are humbled, thankful, fearful, joyful and hopeful, all at once.  You realize there is no sin too great, no problem too large, no hurt too painful, no sorrow so overwhelming that He cannot remove the burden if we allow Him.  God responds to prayers from a sincere heart.  “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”  Psalm 145 :18

Prayer establishes a deep fellowship with God.   “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” - James 4:8    It is how we draw closer to Him so we can experience His presence.  In doing so, we recognize our need for Him and acknowledge His strength, wisdom and faithfulness.   While our pride separates us from God, prayer births our humility.  We find ourselves confessing “we cannot, but God can”.  Christ affirms to us, “Apart from Me you can do nothing”. - John 15:5

Prayer not only helps us recognize our dependence on Him, but we learn it is how God works in and through us.   “You do not have because you do not ask.” – James 4:2   It is a means of seeking God’s will and participating in His work on earth.   Prayer allows you to intercede for others.   We demonstrate our love for one another when we pray for the healing, wellbeing and salvation of others.  “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” – James 6:16
