Most discipleship studies assume you have a local church with an active small group program. Many people do not — and many more have reasons why in-person participation is not the right fit for them right now. The online format is not a compromise version of the study. For the people it was designed to serve, it is the right version.
Online groups serve people who:
● Have no local church or small group community
● Live in a rural or geographically isolated area
● Have physical limitations, illness, or disabilities that make in-person attendance difficult
● Work schedules or family responsibilities that conflict with local group times
● Value the privacy of an online setting for an honest examination of faith
● Are not yet ready for the vulnerability of an in-person community but want to begin
● Have left the institutional church but are still searching
Whatever brings you here — the online group offers the same complete four-pillar journey, the same trained facilitator, and the same covenant community as any in-person Awaken the Sleeper group. The only difference is the screen between you.
What to Expect
The Study
Awaken the Sleeper is a 30-topic journey through Scripture organized across four pillars: Foundational Truths, Growing in Faith, Walking in Obedience, and Maturity and Discipleship. It begins at Chapter 1 — not where most studies assume you already are, but where you actually are. It serves seekers and long-time believers at the same table, without labeling either.
The Sessions
Groups meet once per week via Zoom for approximately 90 minutes. Sessions are facilitated by a trained ministry leader who guides discussion, holds the space for honest engagement, and walks alongside participants through each topic. The complete journey covers 30 sessions over approximately seven months.
The Weekly Commitment
Each session closes with one honest step — a specific, practical commitment you make about how you will live what you have learned in the coming week. The following session opens with an honest conversation about what happened. Not a grade. Not a performance. One honest step, reported honestly. This is the thing that makes growth real rather than theoretical.
The Community
Before the first session, every participant signs the Awaken the Sleeper Group Covenant — a mutual commitment to confidentiality, honesty, and care for one another. What is said in the group stays in the group. The group is not there to evaluate you. It is there to walk with you.
The Participant Kit
Each participant receives a personal study kit — all four Awaken the Sleeper Participant Guides, a booklet, a letter from the author, and a set of Pillar 1 Truth Cards for everyday sharing. The kit is included and shipped directly to you.

What Others Ask
Do I need to be a Christian to join?
No. Awaken the Sleeper was designed for people at every point on the faith journey — including those who have never seriously examined the claims of Christ. Topic 1 does not assume you believe anything. It asks the most honest question available: what do you actually think happens after you die?
What if I fall behind or miss a session?
Life happens. Missing an occasional session does not disqualify you. Your facilitator will help you stay connected and caught up. If significant life circumstances require a pause, we will work with you on next steps.
Is what I share in the group kept confidential?
Yes. Every participant signs the Group Participation Covenant before the first session. What is said in the group stays in the group — no exceptions, no expiration date. A violation of this covenant results in removal from the group.
What technology do I need?
A device with a camera, a microphone, and a reliable internet connection. Zoom is free to download at zoom.us. Your facilitator will send you the group link before the first session.
Can I get a refund if I need to leave the program?
If you withdraw during Pillar 1 (the first nine sessions), you will receive a 75% refund of your journey fee. After Pillar 1, refunds are prorated by pillar. The Participant Kit is non-refundable. Sponsored participants are not eligible for refunds.
How long before my group starts?
Group placement typically takes 3–5 business days from application. New groups form on a rolling basis as enrollment reaches minimum size. You will be notified of your group start date at placement confirmation.
